The weather has changed in California (finally) and we enjoyed our first fall weekend of rain! On Saturday we went to lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant in Fresno, Imperial Garden Restaurant, with Bruce and Mae and several members of their family. The dim sum was great and the oysters were especially fresh and yummy. In the afternoon we spent a few hours with Sara and Todd and Cambria. Todd requested some help to unpack his 50 boxes of wine and load them back into the refrigerated wine cellar. What a job! He has some very nice wines and has promised to bring some to share for Thanksgiving. In the evening we enjoyed the Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater presentation of The Producers. It was so well done and I even knew the lead who played Max Bialystock, the son of someone I worked with at Fort Washington Elementary. On Sunday we were alerted by a neighbor that a home on the lake was on fire. She and I walked to the site, about a quarter mile from us. It was fully engulfed in flames when we got there and I took the following pictures to share. The news last night said it was valued at over 2 million dollars. The sad thing is they put on a new treated shake roof last year and just completed about $70,000 in remodeling, but luckily no one was there. The firefighters did a great job of keeping the flames from homes on either side of this one. It is owned by a laser eye doctor from Fresno.
I'm sure he has plenty of insurance, but they lost everything except a boat and a couple of jet skis that the firemen were able to get out of the garage.
